On Saturday evening, the residence of Education Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury in Chittagong city was attacked. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. at Chashma Hill. During the attack, two cars parked in front of the house were vandalized, with one of them being set on fire. Additionally, furniture inside the residence was damaged. The house, formerly occupied by Mahibul’s father and former city mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, was targeted while the minister was away, although family members were present at the time.


Earlier, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the office of Member of Parliament for Chittagong-10 Constituency, Mohiuddin, located in Lalkhan Bazar, was also attacked and set ablaze. Police boxes at Newmarket, Tigerpass, and GEC junctions in the city were also vandalized.


The attacks have been reportedly linked to the anti-discrimination student movement, which had been conducting a protest march throughout the city. However, the leaders of the movement have denied any involvement in the attacks on the minister's residence. Khan Talat Mahmud, co-coordinator of the student movement, stated to Prothom Alo that their protest march concluded at the Tigerpass intersection, and the movement would not take responsibility for any incidents occurring afterward.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong City Police (Mass) Kazi Mohammad Tarek Aziz confirmed to Prothom Alo that the residence was attacked and vandalized. The police are investigating the incident and taking legal action against those identified as involved.
